“I wrote a letter to the legislature and said I support the idea trying to help the medicinal use. There's a purpose.” (02/08/18)

“You come into Fort Bend County with a couple of ounces of marijuana, and you get caught with it, you are going to jail… Marijuana laws is all politics. In the large urban areas in these municipalities, with these large cities, it is run by more liberal policy makers. In these counties, us, in Montgomery County, you are not going to see it. This is a relatively conservative county.” (02/08/18)

Nehls said he could support a program that minimizes punishment or jail time for a first-time offender but he disagrees with Ogg that third- or fourth-time offenders should have no other consequence than taking a class. (03/22/17)

"'There are many, many kids who are smoking marijuana,' Nehls said. 'I’m almost beginning to believe more kids are smoking marijuana than smoking cigarettes. If you think we’re winning the war on drugs, we’re really not.'" (03/22/17)
