Following the passage of Congressional amendments limiting the Justice Department from taking prosecutorial actions against those in legal marijuana states, President Trump has consistently issued signing statements indicating that he believes that he has the power to disregard these amendments because he believes that they are unconstitutional. Governor Noem has hostrocially opposed all efforts to leglaize marijuana in South dakota. She claims that it is a gateway drug and will lead peopele to get into "stronger drugs" She has state that when it comes to the legalization of marijuana, she will govern as the people of South Dakota vote. She claims that since the majority of South Dakotians vote in oppositon of leglaizing marijuna, she will not legalize it yet.
Senator Rounds is against the legalization of marijuana use. He beleives it is a "gateway drug" and believes South Dakota has enough of those already. He seems to have issues of morality with the drug, which are not rooted in scientific evidence.
John Thune does not support decriminalizing marijuana at the federal level. He is aware that national perspective on marijuana is evolving.
